Differentiate descriptive, historical, correlational, and experimental Essay

Differentiate descriptive, historical, correlational, and experimental research methods. Provide clear definitions of each. Use examples that point out the fact - Essay Example This approach is designed to assemble quantitative data that answers questions regarding a population status and hypotheses testing. Descriptive research usually uses interviews, surveys, and natural observation to gain numerical data, which can be processed over a short-run or longitudinal period of time. Once the "technique for describing, organizing, and summarizing numerical data" is consummated, the numerical data is statistically analyzed using "mean, mode, median, variance, standard deviation, range, percentage, frequency and rank" (Quarterman et al pp 230, 2005). An organization wants to numerically define types of purchases for a selected demographic. One technique is to create a survey questionnaire that reflects specific and non-biased qualitative questions with numerical responses. Once the questionnaire is distributed and received back, the numerical data is analyzed using the descriptive statistics Quarterman describes. This is a cross-sectional method because it only deals with one instance, however if the organization wishes to follow participants through a time line, the research is considered longitudinal. The benefit of descriptive research method is that it generates a numerical value to answer a qualitative question. This can be used to test hypothesis, to find averages, and to create a measurement that can be analyzed to describe a state of being for a population. The cons of descriptive research are sample and measurement errors where a samples responses are incorrectly delivered, construed, answered or analyzed. In the above example if the organization incorrectly sends the questionnaire to the wrong demographic, the responses would be seriously negligent of the description they are trying to analyze, and the responses would be virtually useless. This method analyzes past information and the resolutions or irresolution associated with an event that has already occurred by

Investment Advisors Small Business - Business Plan Essay

Investment Advisors Small Business - Business Plan - Essay Example Institutions, which would be discussed in this section, are Royal Bank of Canada, LBMC and FiduciaryVest. Royal Bank of Canada (RBC): Established back in the year 1869, RBC is Canada’s largest bank in terms of asset value and market capitalization. The institution consistently receives high credit ratings both from Moody’s Investor Services and Standard & Poor’s. This has helped the company to gain the trust of the prospective investors. The advisory service of RBC caters to the high net worth private clients and niche corporate and institutional clients across the globe. Other than investment advice, they offer complimentary financial plans and wealth consultations, guided by RBC experts (RBC, 2010, p.1-2). LBMC: LBC Investment Advisors, LLC, has been ranked among the top financial planning firms in US. The ranking was done by CPA Wealth Provider on the basis of assets under management. The financial institution has more than $ 300 million under its management and it has been experiencing sustainable and continual growth in the industry (LBMC, 2010). FiduciaryVest: FiduciaryVest is an employee owned independent investment advisory firm. They offer consulting service and advice which is in accordance to the interests of the clients. The new institution must possess some competitive advantage to sustain its existence in the long run. The company was established by three people, Carol Buckalew, Arnold Jones and Richard Small. Carol is a CFA with more than 15 years of

Different aspects regarding abortion

Different aspects regarding abortion Everyone has different aspects regarding abortion, when a fetus is determined to be a human or a human being and when or why someone should or should not have an abortion. In this paper I hope to open your eyes to the Pro-choice argument of abortion and why maybe it should be considered the womens choice and not to be determined by other opinions and views. There are several different arguments of when a fetus can be or should be considered a human or a human being. Pro- choice arguments do consider a fetus a human or they would not have an argument on abortion, but the question is when is a fetus considered a human being? What makes us a human being is the ability to be a recognized member of society. There can be no meaningful social participation or social acceptance for someone still living inside anothers body. Fetuses do not have a social identity, because of the fact that even names are not determined until after the birth and certification of a birth. Society simply places infants in a higher social value then fetuses, which is embedded in our history, culture and society. Some cultures babies arent deemed socially acceptable until later in life. The human species is estimated to have killed 10 to 15 percent of its born children. The point in life when one can be considered a human being is determined by social customs and social norms. Babies have not established a social identity as some older children or adults, because of their undeveloped human abilities and potential. Pro- Life arguments have completely different views. Pro-life are more of the religious side of abortion and why women should not abort a child. They determine that an embryo is a human as soon as the womens egg is fertilized with the sperm. Whether or not it does not have a heart beat or a functional brain, which is the determining factor that one is considered to be alive. The typical meaning of human being is a physical body of an acceptable size and shape with common dimensions; early embryos do not have similarities that define us as human beings.Zygotes and embryos are barely visible to the naked eye and have no bodies, brains, skeleton, or internal organs. Fetuses do not breath or can make sounds, they are not seen unless through ultrasound. They absorb nourishment and dispose of waste through an umbilical cord and placenta, not a mouth and anus like all other human beings. A early human fetus is almost indistinguishable as such and if put next to a dog or other animal fetus cannot be recognized as human. The brain is not yet able to have conscious thought, memory and doesnt develops a personality until after birth and social integration. But our complex brains are what set us apart from animals and define us as human beings. The brain is the seat of personhood. So how could one determine that this completely dependent cell is a human being? Pro-life advocates like to demand legal rights for fetuses. There is no support for fetuses as legal persons in international human rights codes. In almost all national constitutions fetuses are not treated as persons or humans. American citizenship is granted to those born in the United States (as per the 14th Amendment) and the word Everyone in the Canadian constitution has been deemed by the courts not to include fetuses. A Gallup survey taken in November 2009 suggest that 48 percent consider themselves pro-choice and 45 percent consider themselves anti-choice, compared to 42 percent pro-choice, 51 percent anti-choice in May 2009.This new research shows numbers close to the historic average, with a small majority of voters supporting choice: 51 percent believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases; 44 percent believe abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. Pro choice views also vary in not only social class and ethnicity but also in the age of the social class. For example 59 percent of young people—support a pro-choice position, 8 points higher than the overall average. Some of this difference may be an artifact of the difficulty of adequately representing the views of young people in landline surveys. In this research, the sample includes interviews among young people from landlines, cell phones, and the web, which better captures a diverse and increasingly mobile population. Youth reached through landlines are more likely to be married, own a ho use, and have started their own family, and less racially diverse, often resulting in a more conservative political outlook. Regardless of the views of society or the laws of human rights of a fetus, women will have abortions by any means they can. Whether they break the laws or risks lives doing it abortions will still continue to happen. Even the ones who believe abortion is murder and believe it is morally and ethically wrong but have chosen to go through with an abortion with continue to have them. So ultimately it has to be the womens choice and her moral conscience that will help her make these decisions. Thats why the decision should be left up to the pregnant women, and we should help provide safe, legal ways to have abortions. Ultimately, the status of a fetus or whether one wants to have an abortion or not is a matter of societys opinion, and the only opinion that should count is the opinion and decisions of the pregnant woman.

plato vs. socrates :: essays research papers

Plato vs. Aristotle Plato and Aristotle, two very well known philosophers, by definition are knowledge lovers, who held different ways of thinking on that of creation, politics, and love, consequently the teacher of Aristotle, who was Plato, holds different views on all of those matters. Creation, the beginning process of life either given from God, or an actual â€Å"higher form† which was Plato’s idea, or passed through from evolution, from which Aristotle sided with is one example of their differences. Plato’s idea that the creator, was a God, the all powerful who created the Earth, the universe, ECT, Aristotle would not believe in such a thing, because in his way of thinking, he does not encourage something that isn’t visual to him. Substance, matter, substratum, plain black and white evidence of something in the only convincing barrier for Aristotle’s mind to handle, whereas Plato trusted quite the opposite. Politics for these two resembles night and day. Aristotle preached balance. In balance, a stable government can be observed and obtained. Plato's concept of what politics and government should be is a direct result of his belief in the theory of forms. The theory of forms basically states that there is a higher "form" for everything that exists in the world. Each material thing is a representation of the real thing which is the form. According to Plato, most people cannot see the forms; they only see their representation or their shadows. Love for Plato had to be accomplished through mind and soul. For him, and his idea the mind and soul could not be separated, either through mortality or immortality. Someone could not love without body or a soul. To Aristotle we are of substance. One cannot see a soul, nor detect a mind, or where it lies, therefore to Aristotle, it does not exist. One cannot see love, it does not have fire, flesh or a head†¦.all aspects of matter that are defined of what everything living is. In conclusion, my idea of what the ideal politics is, which I know cannot be obtained is where the people are respected. No irresponsibility of what the people want carried through, to get dropped, or forgotten or even just not even considered. We live in a society where we have lost touch with what matters, what the democracy is set for, what it stands for as Americans. My view on love is that it exists.

Reflective account on End-Of-Life Essay

Last year 23 September 2012. I had a resident called â€Å"Mrs X† she was a 72year-old widowed living at —, a Nursing Care Home. She’s not a religious type of person as she was Atheist. She has lived in the home for the past two years, and during that time I was assigned as her key worker. Mrs X had One Son and 3 grand daughters they are all regular visitors to the home. She has recently been diagnosed with renal failure, and her life expectancy is only a couple of months without dialysis. In the past Mrs X has made it clear that when her â€Å"time comes† she wants to be able to stay at Belmont House, and â€Å"go quietly†. She has stated that she does not want any treatment that will prolong her life. This means she has chosen not to accept dialysis. A planning meeting, involving Mrs X, her family and health and social care workers has taken place, and a care and support plan has been put in place to help Mrs X to live comfortably at Belmont House . This has included a discussion, led by Mrs X, about her wishes. She has made it clear that she does not want any medical intervention to prolong her life, and this has been recorded in an ‘advance care plan’. Mrs X’s 3 granddaughters are supportive but her son Mark has difficulty accepting the decision, however he realised it’s her mums decision and to respect her mum’s wishes. As well as input from her GP, Mrs X will be receiving regular support from specialist nurses to manage her symptoms and keep her comfortable. Day-to-day care and support will continue to be provided by the care workers. Mrs X’s granddaughters and Mark will spend time with their Mother each day. This was the first time since I began working at the Palliative care unit that I had been closely involved with someone who is dying, and I was upset and anxious about caring properly for Mrs X. My line manager was responsible for ensuring that I am properly trained and supported so that Mrs X‘s needs and the needs of her family are properly addressed. In our discussion with my line manager, I was chatted about my concerns, my feelings, and what I seen as the gaps in my expertise. Mrs X is becoming very tired, spending more time resting. Her skin is very fragile and the risk of skin breakdown has increased significantly. I was experienced and qualified care worker, but I and my colleagues need to be highly skilled in managing Mrs X’s skin so that it does not break down causing her addition distress. I was given by an additional training in this area so I feel confident and able to take proper care of Mrs X’s skin. My line manager always works alongside with me on demonstrated good skin care. This gave her opportunity to observe me, and to demonstrate best practice. She also talked to the nurse specialists, to find out if there are any particular creams or equipment that will benefit Mrs X, or if they have any other advice. My manager given me also a day course for End of life and supporting people to live and die well instantly so I managed to share to Mrs X situation and condition and it works. ï Å  One day she talked to me about her pass. She said when she was youth she had a puppy and 2years later the dog was died. She’s devastated and don’t know how to deal with it until a day she found out she has terminal ill. I found her one day she cried. I came to the situation of sadness and tearful however I kept in myself, and tried to control and showed my professional experience in dealing with it. I talked to her and cheered her up. I asked how was she spent time with her puppy? She smiled and said, lots of time she was enjoy with puppy walking to the fields together, when puppy was tired she open her tongue out and sit and very quiet. She’s smiled when she’s telling all about her puppy’s story. So I came to the point to ask her family. She’s quiet for a while, and then she said my family just came to visit me when I arrived here except my oldest granddaughter. They never visit me when I was at my home. I was interested to listen until she said, â€Å"one day I’m gone no one stay at my home except my oldest granddaughter. I was surprised which I known every time I saw her family came visited her they are smiled and very chatty to the staff. I went to the staff office and I recorded to the care plan and then I reported to my line manager the story. It was my day off when she passed away. My colleague texted me and I rushed to come and see her before the under taker take her away. I was devastated however I managed to talk to her family and offered their drinks and other basics they needs. Her family appreciated my time and hospitality. Until then, I was very aware and to look after well with the people dying. And also the relatives concerns and wishes. Sometimes, it wasn’t easy to talk about end of life issues but it’s important to do. Now that we’ve put our affairs in order and talked about what we want, we can â€Å"put that in a box† as it were, and get on with living one day at a time, cherishing each day together, as I know it’s going to end one day†¦

Dollhouse Paper Essay

Love may be compared to a child’s dollhouse. Their dreams and aspirations in life start with the simple imaginations they build while playing with the said toy. From the way they perceive the entrance to be, to the little details of the house, these dreams begin with a little imagination that become a reality, as they grow older. I guess the little things are the ones that matter after all.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As a little girl, I have imagined a lot of things while playing with my toys. This is where I have built my perceptions about life, in general, and how it was to get married and have my own family. I imagined everything, down to the smallest detail, with a commercial model as my partner. Funny at first, but I never imagined that I would actually live to do the things that I have dreamed of as a young girl.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I grew up to become an architect with my bestfriend, Alex. Being friends since we were five years old, we overcomed heartaches and struggledto go on with life together. We knew very well the strengths and weaknesses of each other, making our friendship stronger as time passed by. We practically planned how our future will be when we have our own families. The funny thing there was, Alex never really had a girlfriend. My two relationships ended with me choosing to be with Alex rather than with them. Somehow, I could not imagine myself living a life without the bestfriend I have known for many years.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The time came when Alex was starting to change. Whenever his phone rang, he would immediately tell me that he has to go, and would not say where. I was beginning to feel jealous about the whole situation, for he was not around whenever I needed him to be. I was not used to this kind of treatment from him. I was deemed to find out what was happening. I followed him during one day, from his house to the bowling arena. I was surprised with what I saw—a pretty young blonde, who looked like me was hugging and laughing with my bestfriend. I was furious. I stormed towards them, and told shouted on the girl. They were both surprised with what I did, then Alex asked me why I did that. I couldn’t answer him, so I left.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Months have passed, and Alex and I were still not communicating. I was embarrassed with my actions, and decided not to take any of his calls. I felt desolated. I came to the realization that I was in love with my bestfriend for as long as I can remember. Now, it was too late for me to fix things with the love of my life. I tried calling him several times, but he never answered. Then one day, I got a call from Alex’ girlfriend, saying that they were involved in an accident. She knew how much I meant to Alex, so she said that she wanted me to be there beside him. I rushed to his aide, crying, regretting the things that I have said on the day we argued. I knew that I was in love with my bestfriend, but I had no way of fixing it. Alex has a girlfriend now, and nothing in the world could ever change it.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   When Alex opened his eyes, his girlfriend was there beside him. I was uncomfortable. I knew that I was the one who should be seated beside him. I decided to stay outside, just in case he did not want to see me. I felt nervous. I did not know how to react when the time came that we had to see each other face to face. I did not want to lose him again, nor did I want to end our friendship. I decided to accept the fact that he could never be mine.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Soon after, his girlfriend followed me and told me that Alex was looking for me. I followed her and stood at his bedside. â€Å"Finally†, he said. I was confused with how he reacted. Then both the girl and Alex smiled. Then Alex said, â€Å"I am happy that you are here. Atleast now I know that I meant a lot to you.† Then the girl said, â€Å"Louise, I am not his girlfriend. I am his closest cousin, Sandy.   Alex brought me to the bowling arena to play your favorite sport. He has told me a lot about you, and said how important you were in his life†. I admit, that I was really embarrassed with the situation that I was in. Then Louise opened the dresser and pulled out what seemed to be a  Ã‚   dollhouse. â€Å"This is something that I have reserved for you all theses years, Louise.† A two-story peach house with a wide garden, a patio, and a terrace on the second floor surprised me. It was the   house that I imagined myself to have since I was seven. I felt tears accumulating in my eyes. Then Alex added, â€Å"this is the reason why I studied Architecture. When we were younger, I promised you that I will build your dream house. This is the design I built, Louise – my years of love all placed in   this house.†   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   From then on, Alex and I were never separated. We know have two children and are living   in my dreamhouse, which we have worked for. As for my dollhouse, it was placed in one part of our living room, that symbolized our love for each other.
